New Entrants

~ We get yet another bad song added onto the countdown this week. It seems as if all of the worst songs off of Hit-Bound are the ones that are getting spots on the countdown. This week we get Austin Brown - In Betweenin'. This song is pretty typical of what we hear from aspiring teen musicians. He kind of reminds me of Musical.ly teenagers that used to attempt to get big with their music. While he is better, I just can't take this song seriously. His voice also does not make it any better. I guess that this kid can have potential, but this song is just generic, hard-to-take-seriously teen pop.

~ We also receive Walk Me Home from P!nk this week. This song is good. I have been enjoying it lately. P!nk can pretty much always please me with her music, so it wasn't a surprise that I enjoyed this. While it is certainly not her best, she still gives a powerful vocal performance, and gives the song a powerful set of lyrics. I also like the unique production here that is not typical of P!nk songs. Overall, this one adds up nicely and I would like to see it have some success here.

Entrant Rankings:
  1. P!nk - Walk Me Home
  2. Austin Brown - In Betweenin'

Hit-Bound
  • Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
  • Marshmello/CHVRCHES - Here With Me
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
  • NOTD/Felix Jaehn/Georgia Ku/Captain Cuts - So Close
  • Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Ciara - Thinking Bout You (DEBUT)
  • lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • Ally Brooke - Low Key
  • Ava Max - So Am I
  • Lizzo - Juice (DEBUT)
  • Fletcher - Undrunk
  • Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
  • Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
~ New to Hit-Bound this week, we have Ciara with Thinking Bout You. Now, I am usually partied to thinking that Ciara's music is pretty average and mediocre, but this song is really, really good. Her voice sounds amazing here, and she usually doesn't utilize it very well. So, I applaud her on that. I would definitely like to see this be successful.

~ We also have Lizzo - Juice debuting to Hit-Bound this week. This song is kind of fun, but I can't really take it too seriously. However, I enjoy it to some extent. It is an okay song, but I don't think it will really grow on me. We'll see. More on this if it ever debuts to the countdown.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
2. Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
3. Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
4. Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
5. Ciara - Thinking Bout You

Blurb Me Home

~ It is good to see the Jonas Brothers already take over the #1 spot with Sucker, after only three weeks on the countdown. We needed a little shake up from the usual Panic! At The Disco and The Chainsmokers limbo.

~ I am very happy to see The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds Of Summer enter into the top 10 with Who Do You Love, which is my favorite song on the countdown at the moment. It is refreshing to see the inferior song from The Chainsmokers, This Feeling, fall out of the top 10 after weeks and weeks up there.

~ It is impressive to see Shallow jump so high after a re-entry. Perhaps Hits 1 is finally realizing that this one shouldn't have had such a crappy first run, and that it should have been here all along. So, they must be trying to make up for lost time. I believe this is just about as high as it peaked the first time it was here.

~ So, funny thing. I was listening to Twenty One Pilots - Chlorine on the way home this week, and now I am having second thoughts about it. I actually don't find it that bad anymore. Crazy thing. I actually started singing along to the chorus. So, yeah. This may be temporary, but for now I think it is okay.

~ I am not happy that All The Ways made a second-week jump. I was hoping that it would drop like a number of our other debuts from last week. Fingers crossed this mess will not gain access into the top 20.

~ It is disappointing to see that the best debut from last week, 11 Minutes, has already made a drop. It does not look promising. I really don't want this to flop.

~ On the other hand, it is nice to see our "meh" debuts not do so good. Here is to getting the space-fillers Hurts Like Hell, Genius, and most importantly, Harry out of here as fast as possible.

~ Oh my goodness. Can we just get The Way I Am out of here already? This song is so irrelevant! Why has it been here for almost a year?

~ As for the exits, it is nice to see the departure of Don't Go Breaking My Heart. That song was here for far too long. It is kind of sad to see Sue Me go, but after last week's drop, I was kind of expecting its departure this week.

New Entrants

~ First up this week on our daunting list of debuts, we have Kelsy Karter with Harry. This song is not good. Her voice is grating as all hell and the lyrical content is childish and stupid. I was really hoping that we wouldn't see this on the countdown, but unfortunately we did. The good news is that I don't see it going too far on the countdown, but time will tell with that. It will probably just sit in the bottom 5 for weeks upon weeks, unnecessarily filling up space.

~ Next up, after the refreshing return of Shallow from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, we have Madison Beer with Hurts Like Hell. I had initially not been a huge fan of this song, but after a few listens I grew to like it. However, now I have returned back to my initial feelings on the song. It is just okay. Her voice isn't anything that unique and the production here is kind of weird. So, needless to say, at this point, I really wouldn't care the level of success this song has here.

~ LSD is next with their song that has been around for quite some time now, which is Genius. However, it is now getting some attention due to the more recent remix of the song with Lil Wayne, which is what debuted here this week. Genius is LSD's best song, but I don't care as much for the remix as I do for the original. Lil Wayne adds a rather unpleasant verse here that notches the song down a rank on its level of goodness in my eyes. However, Labrinth and Sia both deliver up nice vocals, so the song isn't bad by any means.

~ Maren Morris has just released her newest album, and we receive the lead single, Girl, as a debut to the countdown this week. My experience with her music hasn't been very great. I recognized her talent on songs like My Church and 80s Mercedes. However, Girl harnesses the similar feelings that I had towards one of her previous singles, Rich. Her vocals here are underwhelming and the concepts of the song seem pretty cut and paste. I feel like she is trying to go mainstream by making bland and generic content, which is not working for her in my opinion. I hope that this song doesn't last long and doesn't get bigger anywhere else.

~ Next is another song that has been around for quite some time now. This week we have Meghan Trainor bringing us All The Ways. This is yet another example of why this girl needs to stop singing. She is awful. The only single that I have truly ever liked from her was Dear Future Husband. Everything else was just boring and lazy pop. However, All The Ways is nowhere near her least-appealing song to me, given the crap we have got in the forms of All About That Bass, No, No Excuses, Let You Be Right, etc., but it is still pretty bad. This song is incredibly generic, and her voice is the same thing that we usually hear. I am just hoping that this song doesn't last too long here.

~ Finally, with the only truly good addition we get to the countdown this week (aside from the re-entrance of Shallow), we have 11 Minutes from YUNGBLUD and Halsey with Travis Barker. I have really been drawn into the uniqueness and innovative sound of this song. Both YUNGBLUD and Halsey deliver superb vocals that are reminiscent of a traditional "sad" love ballad that we used to hear a little more in the 2000's. That is what I like about this song, it is reminiscent of older eras of music, while still being attached to the present era of music. In addition, Travis Barker makes a nice addition to the song, and I like what he has to contribute instrumentally. I am hoping that this song continues to rise on radio, and do well here, but it is looking that it has a promising run here, considering that it debuted all the way up at #23.

Best New Entrant Of The Week: YUNGBLUD & Halsey/Travis Barker - 11 Minutes

Entrant Rankings:
  1. YUNGBLUD & Halsey/Travis Barker - 11 Minutes
  2. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow
  3. LSD/Lil Wayne - Genius
  4. Madison Beer - Hurts Like Hell
  5. Maren Morris - Girl
  6. Meghan Trainor - All The Ways
  7. Kelsy Karter - Harry

Hit-Bound
  • Ally Brooke - Low Key
  • P!nk - Walk Me Home
  • Austin Brown - In Betweenin'
  • Marshmello/CHVRCHES - Here With Me (DEBUT)
  • Fletcher - Undrunk
  • lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
  • Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
  • Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • Ava Max - So Am I (DEBUT)
  • Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
  • Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
  • NOTD, Felix Jaehn, & Captain Cuts/Georgia Ku - So Close
~ The first of our two debuts to Hit-Bound this week comes from a (almost) carbon copy of Marshmello's most recent hit, Happier, featuring CHVRCHES. However, we receive vocals from Lauren Mayberry this time around, rather than Dan Smith. She does a nice job here, like she usually does. As for the production, it is pretty much the same as what we heard on Happier. So, not much that is super original here, but I am glad that CHVRCHES will have a little more recognition when this song inevitably becomes huge.

~ Next up, we have Ava Max with So Am I. This song is very similar to Sweet But Psycho in terms of the beat and overall production. The vocal content here is nice, just like it is in Sweet But Psycho. I don't know if this song will get huge, but I am okay with it if we have a Sweet But Psycho 2.0. More on this if it debuts.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
2. Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
3. Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
4. NOTD, Felix Jaehn, & Captain Cuts/Georgia Ku - So Close
5. Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored

All The Blurbs

~ We see a continuity of Panic! At The Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It at the #1 spot for a third week in a row. This is okay with me, but I am hoping that we see Sucker snatch that spot next week.

~ Dean Lewis - Be Alright soared into the top 10 this week. At this point, I would have preferred if this occurred at an earlier date, because I am getting kind of sick of this song. But, I can live with it, as long as Tequila is kept out of the top 10.

~ It is kind of disappointing that Who Do You Love hasn't hit the top 10 yet, but that is most likely due to the fact that This Feeling is still in the top 10. I would prefer if the two of them swapped spots at this point, considering that we have a few too many "meh" songs in the top 10 right now.

~ Every week I forget that Khalid - Better is still here. It has kind of been dormant for most of its countdown tenure. The song has primarily stayed around the #24 spot, kind of like Lauren Jauregui - Expectations did while it was here.

~ Zedd & Katy Perry - 365 and Post Malone - Wow. both look like they are not going to get anywhere at this point. The latter I really don't care about, but the former is a song that I wish had more success all-around. It is too underrated.

~ At this point, I am pretty annoyed by the fact that Don't Go Breaking My Heart is still here, filling up an unnecessary spot when this song wasn't even that big. In addition, I am kind of pissed that The Way I Am is still here, and that Sexual Vibe left before this song. Stephen Puth did much better than his brother on that song.

~ As far as the exits go, I am glad that Broken and Shotgun have finally left. They were here for too long. I am also glad that Limitless has left, considering that it was taking up an unnecessary spot, and that the song never made it above the #40 mark the entire time that it was here. Grip really didn't do much, and it was pretty generic, so I am glad about that departure as well. I am sad to see You Say and Sexual Vibe go, but I didn't really see them lasting much longer here. Finally, the biggest loss we have this week is Tell Me It's Over. That song was extremely underrated on all counts and it is sad that Avril Lavigne didn't notch a hit with this song. The title was surely deserved.

New Entrants

~ Our only, and record-breaking entrant to this week's countdown comes from the return of the Jonas Brothers with Sucker. This debuts in the top 10 all the way at #7, beating the previous record for the highest debut that was held by Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe when it debuted at #13. This song has had me hooked in from first listen, and it has just gotten better after each listen. It is a fun, and very catchy song. Both Joe and Nick sound superb on this track, and the production is nicely executed. Seeing as it is clearly Hits 1's favorite track at the moment, it is inevitable that it will hit #1 in the coming weeks. I am happy about that, as it is only one of the three great songs in the top 10 right now, and the best on the countdown in my opinion.

  • Fletcher - Undrunk (DEBUT)
  • Austin Brown - In Betweenin'
  • Ally Brooke - Low Key
  • Kelsy Karter - Harry
  • Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored (DEBUT)
  • LSD/Lil Wayne - Genius
  • P!nk - Walk Me Home
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
~ First up this week we have NOTD, Felix Jaehn, and Captain Cuts coming together on So Close, which features Georgia Ku. So Close is NOTD's best song yet in my opinion. Even though it is quite repetitive, the three producers on this track do an excellent job keeping it lively and Georgia Ku delivers pretty good vocals.

~ Next up this week we have Fletcher with Undrunk. It is definitely a good song. Her voice is nice, and the beat here is unique. Additionally, I enjoy the lyrical content of this song, and I think that is very different from traditional breakup tracks. I would hope to see this song be successful in the future.

~ Lastly, we have Hits 1 picking up on Ariana Grande's most recent, and best, if you ask me, single off of her most recent album (aside from Imagine--if that was even a single?). Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored joins Hit-Bound this week. At first, going into this song, I had expected it to be kind of offbeat compared to the other songs off of the album--but it is really catchy. Of course, it nowhere meets her vocal capability, but the beat is fun and the lyrical content is kind of silly. Nevertheless, it is just a song that I can have fun with, which is what I think she was going with on 7 Rings--but fell short of for me.

My Bottom 5 Countdown Picks
1. Kelsy Karter - Harry
2. lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
3. Ally Brooke - Low Key
4. Austin Brown - In Betweenin'
5. Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend

My Top 5 Countdown Picks
1. Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
2. Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
3. Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
4. NOTD, Felix Jaehn, & Captain Cuts/Georgia Ku - So Close
5. P!nk - Walk Me Home

Blurber

~ We see a continuity of Hey Look Ma, I Made It atop the countdown. This is nice. I am just glad that none of the other songs that are currently in the top 5 have taken its spot. Now it is just a matter of getting Sucker up there.

~ Ariana Grande - 7 Rings rises into the top 5 this week. At this point, the song is getting a little annoying, and I feel as if it is unnecessary for it to go any further.

~ I am glad to see the couple of songs that we have entering the top 20 this week, especially I'm So Tired.... I am glad that this song is doing well here already. Additionally, we get Miss Me More, which also makes for a nice replacement for one of the two bad songs that exited the top 20 this week.

~ Songs like I've Been Waiting and 365 aren't really doing much here, which is kind of a shame. They are doing well right now, especially the former more recently. 365 has kind of not taken off, which is kind of sad considering that it is a good song from Zedd--which we haven't heard from him in well over a year.

~ Wow. "Wow." didn't do so good in its second week. I wouldn't be surprised if this one were to exit in the coming weeks.

~ Sexual Vibe looks to be near the end of its countdown life. The track really didn't do all that well here, which doesn't surprise me. However, I still wish it were able to maintain its position in the top 20 for a little while.

~ Seeb & Bastille - Grip makes a significant drop this week, which I am okay with. It really isn't all that great of a song, and it is pretty much trying to be Happier 2.0--but it fails. I would like to hear Bastille on their own again, not on these EDM tracks.

~ As for the sole exit this week, Sicko Mode deserved a bit more in my opinion. But, it is not a traditional song that Hits 1 would pick up, so I knew that it was doomed from the start. However, I give Travis Scott credit for not making something completely awful, which is what we normally hear from today's rap artists.

New Entrants

~ Our first, and best new entrant to the countdown this week comes from Lauv and Troye Sivan with I'm So Tired.... I really like this song. Although it is extremely repetitive, I just find this one to suit itself well because it is also extremely catchy. Both artists do a very articulate job on their verses, and I like the subtle feeling of it all. The romantic, yet infectious vibe of this song as it transitions from verse to chorus is very nicely orchestrated. Needless to say, I am hoping to see this one stick around for a while.

~ After a while on Hit-Bound, we finally get Wow. from Post Malone. I have lost a bit of interest in this song since its release a few months ago. It is pretty similar to songs that we have heard from Post Malone like Better Now. There isn't a huge amount of rapping present here--it is mostly pop oriented. His vocals aren't bad here, and the production is decent. As I said, it is nothing that has hooked me in for the long run, but I have been enjoying this track for a little bit now.

~ Finally, with my least favorite new entrant to the countdown this week, we have Grandson with Apologize. I don't really like this song. The production is kind of weird and this guy's voice hasn't really grown on me. This song is definitely closer to red than it is to green. I don't know, it is just a weird song--and we get those from Hits 1 every once in a while. But, I don't really see this one lasting long here, so I guess if it lives up to my expectations, I shouldn't be too annoyed with it here--even if it is pretty much just a space filler.

Best New Entrant Of The Week: Lauv & Troye Sivan - I'm So Tired...

Hit-Bound
  • LSD/Lil Wayne - Genius
  • P!nk - Walk Me Home
  • Austin Brown - In Betweenin'
  • Kelsy Karter - Harry
  • Ally Brooke - Low Key
  • Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Maren Morris - Girl
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
  • Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde (DEBUT)
  • Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah (DEBUT)
  • YUNGBLUD & Halsey/Travis Barker - 11 Minutes
  • Meghan Trainor - All The Ways
  • Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend (DEBUT)
  • Madison Beer - Hurts Like Hell
  • lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us (DEBUT)
~ The first of our Hit-Bound entrants this week comes from a jam in the form of Dumb Blonde by Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj. This song is just fun. Avril kind of lets loose here, and she hasn't really done that in a while, which is nice. Nicki also sounds nice here. All in all, it is just a fun song and I would love to see it make it onto the countdown.

~ Bebe Rexha brings us Last Hurrah this week, which is another very good song. She sounds great here, especially in the chorus. The production is nice, and the lyrics are unique and nice. This has potential to be one of her best songs, and it is still growing on me. I hope to see it be successful on Hits 1.

~ With our only "meh" entrant to Hit-Bound this week, we have Bury A Friend from Billie Eilish. I don't really know how to feel about this one. I have only heard it twice, and it's not that great. It is very weirdly set up, and her vocals are kind of strange. It is just a weird and honestly a kind of creepy song. I will get back to you on this one after I take a few more listens.

~ Finally, we have the return of Louis Tomlinson after a bit of a hiatus with his new single, Two Of Us. He sounds nice here, and the production is good. The lyrics are very nicely written, and I am just an overall fan of this song. He hasn't really disappointed me yet with his solo music, and the other members of the band have, so I am just hoping that he continues to release content like this.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. YUNGBLUD & Halsey/Travis Barker - 11 Minutes
2. Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
3. Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde
4. Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
5. P!nk - Walk Me Home

I'm So Blurbed...

~ We have a fresh #1! It feels nice to have a different song atop the countdown after a little while with the same songs circulating up top. Hey Look Ma, I Made It is definitely the best song in the top 5 right now, so I am glad it was this if nothing else.

~ Well, 2002 is finally out of the top 20, and that is something to celebrate. It was there for far too long. Seriously, guys. I have no idea what to talk about this week. It was pretty uneventful.

~ Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next has left the top 20. I am guess I am okay with it. It received a nice level of success here.

~ Limitless is still here and I totally forgot. This song is so irrelevant. It has not even made it out of the bottom 5 the entire time it has been here. Maybe it reached #40 at some point. But, come on. A song this unsuccessful is just a space filler at this point.

~ As for the exits this week, The Last Of The Real Ones and Nothing Breaks Like A Heart will be missed, even though I am kind of getting sick of the latter. But, good riddance to Don't Leave Me Alone. One more bad song off the countdown is a good thing.

2019, similar to years past, has been a pretty average year for music. There was a lot of bad, but there was also a lot of good. This year ...
