Ed Sheeran (2) - Week Of October 21, 2017

Hey guys! Welcome back! This post is out today as promised. Also, as promised, here's two more Hot 45 Charts out, as promised. The September 9th and September 16th editions were just posted. So, please go look at them. Also, two people from my own school met Taylor Swift this week and almost the entire student body is very jealous. I might be the most jealous. Taylor Swift superfans naturally have fan accounts (I have one by the way). This girl got recognized by Taylor's managers and was invited to apply for an invitation to Taylor's secret listening sessions. She did indeed get invited, and brought her friend along. So, point of the story here is that you can meet your idol if you keep trying, guess I'll have to keep trying, huh? ;) Especially, this is huge because I come from a very small town in the upper part of New York. We are not recognized for much. So, anyways, with that tidbit of news, here's the list of songs we're saying goodbye to this week.

New Entrants

~ First up this week, we have a song that is quickly gaining steam all over other charts. Ed Sheeran spawns yet another single to the countdown. This one is called Perfect. This is a slower, more toned down song, which contrasts all of the other tracks he's released as singles from his latest album. This also marks what I think is the first time an artist has had four songs on this countdown simultaneously (you may have to check me on that). Anyways, the track is pretty good in my opinion. It took me a few listens to really develop a solid opinion on this one. I think the vocals really are well-done on this track, and it's a nice thing to see a slower song from an artist now and then. As if this will be bigger than his earlier singles from this album, I don't think so, but I do believe that it will be a bigger hit than it's predeceasing single. I hope to see it have some success here.

~ Next up, Fergie is back with Nicki Minaj. They collaborated on a track which is titled You Already Know. If you can recall, Fergie released a couple of singles months back that were the predecessors of this one. Those singles did indeed flop on the charts, and were frankly not good at all. This one, however, is something I can get into. I do like the vocals and the production is indeed strange on this one. It did take me a few listens to get into that. The lyrics aren't the best they could be, but there is a lot of nice things that make up for them. Nicki's verse flows very smoothly, which is another good quality on this one. All in all, it's a good club track and a good one to dance to with friends. So yeah, I hope to see this one have some decent success here.

~ Our final debut of the week comes from Evaride. They are a new group bringing their first single, Heartless. It is a very good first single in my opinion. These guys can sing, so it's not another generic pop group. That's definitely a good sign. I also find the lyrical content on this one very good, so we'll see how it does here. I don't know if it will really take off on this countdown, as it is their first single, but we will have to wait and see.

Best Debut Of The Week: Evaride - Heartless

Blurbs Already Know

~ Ed Sheeran reigns again on the countdown with his least successful single from his album thus far, Galway Girl. This song clearly isn't terrible, but there are certainly some better contenders for the #1 spot in the top 5.

~ Well, this is good news! Portugal. The Man has hit the top 5 people with Feel It Still. I am very glad that this one has been so successful. This is one of my favorites at the moment, so I'm very happy about this. Hopefully this will not be one of those songs to reach a peak here and drop out from it the next week.

~ We also find Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do back in the top 10. This is where this song belongs, so I am happy about this. This song is also the best one here right now, so there's another reason it's a good thing that this song is back above the #10 mark.

~ Charlie Puth - How Long made a very impressive and promising second week jump. I am very delighted about this one being so successful right off the bat. I'm glad it's here and making a significant mark.

~ We also find Taylor Swift back in the top 20 this week with ...Ready For It?. I don't expect this one to be a top 10 hit, but as long as we can see it have some success above the #20 mark, I'm happy.

~ It's good to see some success out of The Script - Rain. They also had a very good second week jump this week. Sadly, they did not reach the top 20, and just fell short. Maybe we can see an entry from them next week, though.

~ We finally got a drop from The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - Something Just Like This. Not that I hate this song, but it was time for it too ween off of the area towards the top of the countdown. Where it is right now, is a space I won't mind seeing it for a while.

~ Sabrina Carpenter made almost a ten spot jump with Why this week. I am so glad to see her song doing well here. I am happy to see her finally having success with one of her singles.

~ Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes does not look like it will be returning to the top 20 any time soon, or ever again for that matter. It is really flopping here. I don't know why, as it is definitely one of the most popular songs out right now.

~ Camila Cabello - Havana also seems to be flopping even more after each week. This really upsets me, because I really like this one, but maybe it'll be one of those miracle songs.

~ Well, I'm sure most of us aren't happy to see such a good song with such an important message have the biggest drop this week. Logic/Alessia Cara/Khalid - 1-800-273-8255 fell the largest amount of spots this week, and it is very unsettling. You people need to get your act together.

~ Kygo & Selena Gomez - It Ain't Me looks like it might be on its last legs. Well, it was sure a pleasure to see this one here. I am still enjoying it, so I would be happy to see this one stay a few more weeks if it could.

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/Florida Georgia Line/watt - Let Me Go (+14)

Recommendation Of The Week: Daya - New

New Entrants

~ Our sole new entrant comes from Charlie Puth, with a song that has a lot to live up to after his huge hit Attention. The track is called How Long. The vocals are about as equally as good as it's predecessor and I really enjoy the beat. The two songs are very similar in terms of them both being about failing relationships. This time around, though, Puth expresses himself as the scorned lover, rather than the other way around, which is a very interesting take. When all is said and done, this is a pretty solid track and is definitely on my playlist of my favorite songs at the moment. I hope to see it have some decent success here.

HitBound

  • Why Don't We - Something Different
  • Bruno Mars - Chunky (DEBUT)
  • Evaride - Heartless

2. Niall Horan - Too Much To Ask
3. Lauv - I Like Me Better
4. PRETTYMUCH - Would You Mind
5. Nick Jonas - Find You

Blurb Long

~ Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl is one of those songs that Hits 1 randomly brings to the #1 spot. This song is barely popular in other areas, so it's just one of those weird occurrences where a underrated song makes way to the top. I don't mind though, at least it's a good song.

~ Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry recovered gracefully after that fall to the edge of the top 10 last week. It's a good thing to see it back in the top 5.

~ We have a new addition to the top 10! The very worthy Halsey - Bad At Love made a jump to #8 this week. I am very glad to see some good success out of this track.

~ The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - Something Just Like This is still oddly being voted for so much that it remains in the area of the top third of the countdown. I really don't think it's necessary for this one to stick around much longer. It's becoming quite old.

~ Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still needs to hop right back into the top 10. That is a command, not a wish.

~ Also, on note of songs that I command make their way back into the top 10, Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do needs to do so also. There is absolutely no reason why this song shouldn't be there right now.

~ Imagine Dragons - Believer seems to be slowly dropping. Hopefully we can see this one out of the top 20 very soon here.

~ Sam Smith - Body Like A Back Road needs to turn around and drive in the other direction. See what I did there? No? No, okay. Seriously, we don't need more bad songs clogging up the top 20 here.

~ Kesha - Praying had no reason to drop this week. Hopefully this does not mean excessive dropping from this song in the near future.

~ I really do not want to see Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? to be a flop, so I would appreciate it if this song was voted back in the other direction.

~ We had a very worthy biggest jump this week from Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/Florida Georgia Line/watt - Let Me Go. I am glad to see a great track like this doing very well here so early on.

~ Camila Cabello - Havana made a second week drop. Hopefully we are not looking at a flop here. So, again, you people need to vote this back in the other direction.

~ At least Sabrina Carpenter - Why is not flopping. I am glad it's at least hitting new peaks every week, even if the jumps may be very small.

~ The Script - Rain made a not so promising small drop this week. I don't know what will happen with this one.

~ I told you people Selena Gomez - Fetish was destined for disaster after that very tiny drop last week, and now we see a slightly bigger drop. I'm telling you people, it's going to keep going down.

~ Sadly, Charlie Puth - Attention made a rather large drop this week. I'm sad to see this one go.

~ This is most likely going to be the last week for Louis Tomlinson/Bebe Rexha/Digital Farm Animals - Back To You. Oh well, it was becoming an "okay" song anyways.

Homecoming Dance

~ Saturday was my school's homecoming dance. I did not go last year as a freshman, so I did decide to go this year, as a sophomore. The theme this year was Under The Sea, which isn't the best theme, in mine and most of my school's opinions. Nevertheless, it was a fun night. I hung out with some great friends. While there was some drama within my group regarding me and a person outside the group, I ignored the other person and allowed myself to have a fun night. We had a new deejay this year and the music played was definitely not the best selection. He played pretty much all of the requests, when some of them were not really fit for a dance. Anyways, here's the songs that were played that I remember:
  • Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
  • Ariana Grande/Nicki Minaj - Side To Side
  • Baauer - Harlem Shake
  • Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) The Time Of My Life
  • Blake Shelton - God Gave Me You
  • Bobby "Boris" Pickett/Crypt-Kickers - Monster Mash
  • Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
  • Cupid - Cupid Shuffle
  • DJ Casper - Cha Cha Slide
  • Fergie - Fergalicious
  • Flo Rida/T-Pain - Low
  • Florida Georgia Line - Cruise
  • Hailee Steinfeld & Zedd/Grey - Starving
  • High School Musical Cast - We're All In This Together
  • Imagine Dragons - Thunder
  • J Balvin & Willy William/Beyoncé - Mi Gente
  • Kris Kross - Jump
  • Lee Brice - I Don't Dance
  • Logic/Alessia Cara/Khalid - 1-800-273-8255
  • Los Del Rio - Macarena
  • Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber - Despacito
  • Luke Bryan - Country Girl (Shake It For Me)
  • Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
  • Michael Jackson - Thriller
  • Nicki Minaj - Anaconda
  • Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies
  • Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe
  • Sam Smith - Stay With Me
  • Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do
  • The Chainsmokers/Halsey - Closer
  • Village People - Y.M.C.A.
  • + some more I can't think of off the top of my head
My Bottom 5 Countdown Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco - L.A. Devotee
2. Sam Smith - Body Like A Back Road
3. Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill

liam-payne-7e41021c-2d4c-4fa5-a390-e7a07bb29cd4.jpg (1200×630)
Hey there, my wonderful friends! I apologize for the delay on this post. I did shoot out another Hot 45 Chart this week, though, so please go check it out. This is the link. The reason this week for the late timing on this post is due to the fact that it was spirit week at my school. I did indeed go to the under the lights games and our annual bonfire. So, I have been out supporting my school this week, and haven't had much free time in between. I guess you could say that I am kind of split on looking forward to the homecoming dance tonight, as I did not go to my first one, which was last year. New Entrants

~ First up this week, we have Hailee Steinfeld replacing herself with a much better song. This time around, she brings us Let Me Go, with deejay Alesso. He definitely contributes a very good amount to the track. The beat flows very nicely from start to end. Hailee does very good on the vocals, like usual with her music, so no surprise there. Also brought into the mix were Florida Georgia Line, a country duo. They do a nice job vocally as well and I have no complaints about it. Lastly, musician watt was also featured on this song for the background instrumentals, and it really pulls the song together. All in all, this one is a pretty solid single, and I would love to see some decent success out of it.

~ Our second new entrant to the countdown this week is from none other than The Script. They debut with Rain this week. Now, this is nowhere near their best work. Some of my favorite songs from them include Breakeven, Nothing, and Superheroes. Rain certainly isn't a bad song, it just doesn't completely capture my attention like some of their former singles. At first listen, I only found this song okay. After a few more, it has brought itself into the green category. It will probably demote itself back to blue sometime in the near future, though. At the moment, though, it's nothing entirely amazing to me. That could change, but that's just my opinion right now.

~ Next, we have Camila Cabello debuting at the fairly high position of #23 this week with one of her newest releases, Havana. This station did indeed cut Young Thug out from the mix, but that's okay, because the replacement vocals make up for it. I don't know what else to say about this song besides the fact that the vocals are good, it's a very catchy and repetitive song, and the production is just cool. I just hope this one does well. I just think it's a fairly good song.

~ Last up and the best this week, we have Taylor Swift with yet another song on the countdown. This time, it is her newest song, ...Ready For It?. I'm not sure whether or not I find this song better, with vocal content and production than Look What You Made Me Do, but one thing is for sure. The lyrical content in this song is better. I like all of Taylor's songs and I don't think there will ever be one to disappoint me. She is my favorite modern artist out there. I really hope this song has a very good amount of success here.

...Ready For Blurbs?

~ Liam Payne continues to hold atop the countdown with Strip That Down. I would prefer if our #2 or even our #4 would be at the top, but it's not an entirely terrible song. I don't mind too much.

~ Mono Mind is going way above and beyond than I thought with their song, Save Me A Place, featuring the likes of Bridge & Mountain. I had not expected this song to even reach the top 10, let alone, #6. I am very glad though as it makes a nice addition to the top 10.

~ Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still hit a new high this week in the top 10. I am very happy about this. I have been enjoying this song for a while and it is definitely one of the best songs here at the moment. Hopefully we can see it keep rising.

~ Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do seems to not be getting any higher than that #9 peak. I was hoping to see this one in the top 3, at least, at some point, but I don't know whether or not that will happen.

~ 1-800-273-8255 has hit a new peak of #20 and made its way into the top 20 this week. I am very glad about this. This is definitely a track worthy of being here. Logic, Alessia Cara, and Khalid did a beautiful job on this one.

~ Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes is clearly not rising like it should be. It dropped below the #20 mark this week. Hopefully this was just a minor setback and it will be back on track next week.

~ Charlie Puth - Attention sadly made a drop this week. This one may be seeing an end in the near future, much to my dismay.

~ Selena Gomez - Fetish has already made a quite scary move on it's second week. Even though it was just a small dip down, this is not a good sign for a song that just debuted. It may be one of those miracles and recover, though.

~ Sabrina Carpenter - Why is making a rather slow start. I didn't entirely expect this one to be hugely successful here. I'm just happy it made it to the countdown without being booted from the station too early.

~ I almost forgot Hey Violet - Hoodie was still with us. I thought this one would have been one to exit a little while ago. It does look like this could be leaving us next week, though. I give it an early farewell.

~ As far as our exits go, we got rid of two bad songs, one of them being an absolute piece of garbage (you know which one I'm talking about). We also got rid of another song that was pretty old at this point, and we got rid of an okay song. So, all in all, it was a pretty good group of exits.

New Entrants

~ Our first debut of the week comes from Sabrina Carpenter with her new single, and most successful one thus far, Why. I have loved this girl's music from the start. Some of my favorite singles from her have included The Middle Of Starting Over and On Purpose. I am so thankful such a great artist like her is finally making a breakthrough. This song's predecessor, Thumbs did decent as well. As for the song, my only complaint is that it is too short. I love the vocals in the song, like usual with Sabrina. The production is very cool and I enjoy the choppy vocals very much. I really hope this one will do good here. She deserves it. She is a fantastic artist.

~ Our second new one this week comes from Selena Gomez. The song is Fetish. This station decided to cut out Gucci Mane, which I don't mind. His part didn't mean a whole lot to me in the song. The song is quite repetitive, but I have been enjoying it for a couple of months. It's definitely not better than Bad Liar, it's predecessor, but it's decent. I'm not sure how this one will do here, so I'm just going to leave it at that.

~ Our third and final debut of the week has the most important message. You are not alone. There is always help. Logic and Alessia Cara, along with Khalid debuted with 1-800-273-8255 this week. This song's title is the suicide prevention hotline. My utmost favorite part of this song is the absolutely beautiful message it brings. This possibly may be one of the best messages a song has had this year. If not, the best. The vocals are quite decent, as well. I really hope this song does well here. I'm glad it made it's way to this station.

2019 Year-End Post #4: My Top 45 Songs of 2019

2019, similar to years past, has been a pretty average year for music. There was a lot of bad, but there was also a lot of good. This year ...
