New Entrants

~ Our sole entrant this week comes from Taylor Swift with You Need To Calm Down. This certainly isn't her best work, but I am able to appreciate this son for what it is. Vocally, she sounds good here, and I somewhat like the production. I'm not really sure this hits big enough of a stride to be released as a single. I feel as if she should have just left this one simply as a promotional offering. However, I can bear this song. So, I don't really care what happens to it here in the long run. After all, we always have ME!.

Hit-Bound
  • Blanco Brown - The Git Up (DEBUT)
  • P!nk - Hustle
  • In Real Life - Crazy AF
  • Lizzo - Truth Hurts
  • SHAED - Trampoline (DEBUT)
  • Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Señorita
  • The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine
  • AJR - 100 Bad Days
  • Ed Sheeran/Chance The Rapper/PnB Rock - Cross Me
  • Asher Angel - One Thought Away
  • OneRepublic - Rescue Me
  • Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
  • Miley Cyrus - Mother's Daughter
  • Public - Make You Mine
  • Kygo & Rita Ora - Carry On
~ The first new song that we get to Hit-Bound this week is The Git Up by Blanco Brown. Let me tell you, this song is absolute shit. It is even worse than Lil Nas X's Old Town Road, which this song is practically a carbon copy of. I do not understand why Hits 1 felt the need to pick up on this song, it is utter trash. Blanco Brown sounds awful--and while the song's production may sound more "country" than Old Town Road, it still is far from even being a member of that genre. I seriously hope that this song does not make it onto the countdown.

~ Next up is a song that I guess is just getting popular now, even though I was more of a fan of it months ago. That song is Trampoline by SHAED. She has a nice voice here, and the production is solid. The only reason that I picked up on this song in the first place--despite it being out for a while--was that it was featured in an Apple commercial months back, and just got stuck in my head.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
2. The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine
3. Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Señorita
4. Miley Cyrus - Mother's Daughter
5. SHAED - Trampoline

You Need To Blurb Down

~ Sucker has finally been dethroned from its thirteen-week-long reign atop the countdown. We have a fresh breath of air atop the chart in the form of If I Can't Have You from Shawn Mendes. Although this isn't his best and not my top choice for the #1 song in the top 5 at the moment, I will take this.

~ Khalid took a pretty big leap up to #7 with Talk this week. I am really not appreciating this jump this late in the game (of this song's countdown run) because I frankly can't stand it anymore.

~ If We Have Each Other was brought into the top 20 in exchange for Speechless--which really wasn't all that good of a trade at all, considering that I am pretty sick of this song at the moment--although my feelings keep fluctuating.

~ There should be no need for With You to go any further on this countdown. It has already been here long enough, and I am just sick of Meghan Trainor's voice bringing its presence onto this countdown.

~ I feel as if Hits 1 is trying to torture us at this song by keeping two overrated and overplayed songs hanging in the middle of the countdown when they are no longer relevant. Let Me Down Slowly and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored both need to go before my ears fall off. They are just so incredibly overplayed that I have grown sick of them.

~ At this point, I am not sure Paradise will be with us another week. This song was doomed from the start.

~ Speaking of songs that I don't think (or at least strongly hope) should be with us for another week, we still have the stale When The Party's Over, the incredibly irrelevant Flexible, and the fairy annoying 7 Rings.

~ As far as our exit, Out Of Love wasn't dealt the best cards here. Unfortunately, it just hung around in the bottom few songs the entire time it was here.

~ My personal chart has shifted from 45 songs to 50 songs! I have officially decided to keep it like this for all future charts. I hope you will check it out!

Jonas Brothers (13) - Week Of June 22, 2019

Ah, the Sirius XM Hits 1 Weekend Countdown...what a great place. Well, except for when the Jonas Brothers completely take it over. I mean, seriously. They now have the longest-running #1 song in the countdown's history...and now have the two highest-debuting songs in the countdown's history. I guess they are just really, really special to Hits 1--even though they are no better than the last boy band. Anyways, we'll get down to that momentarily. New Entrants

~ The first of two debuts this weeks comes from Kaskade and Meghan Trainor. The song is called With You. Like I said in the last post, I am not a fan of this song. I find Meghan Trainor's underwhelming as usual, and Kaskade doesn't do a whole lot with the production appeal. I would say that this track is pretty disappointing, but I almost expect nothing better than disappointing from Meghan Trainor at this point.

~ Second this week is Cool from the Jonas Brothers--debuting at #11, making it the second-highest countdown debut in history. I could understand why Sucker debuted so high on the countdown, but this song is nowhere near as popular. Sure, it has been gaining a little bit of traction in recent weeks, but its overall success is pretty minimal when you compare it to its predecessor. Regarding the track, the vocals are alright, but nothing special and the production isn't the greatest. Lyrically, I suppose it is alright--but in the end this song is no real cause for celebration. It's just simply alright.

Entrant Rankings:
  1. Jonas Brothers - Cool
  2. Kaskade & Meghan Trainor - With You

Hit-Bound
  • Lizzo - Truth Hurts
  • AJR - 100 Bad Days
  • Kygo & Rita Ora - Carry On
  • Asher Angel - One Thought Away
  • P!nk - Hustle
  • Miley Cyrus - Mother's Daughter
  • Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Señorita (DEBUT)
  • The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine
  • Push Baby - Mama's House
  • Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down
  • Public - Make You Mine
  • Ed Sheeran/Chance The Rapper/PnB Rock - Cross Me
  • Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
  • OneRepublic - Rescue Me
  • In Real Life - Crazy AF
~ The sole debut to Hit-Bound this week comes from Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. They bring their superb new single, Señorita. Both of them exhibit outstanding vocals that contribute to the overall steaminess of the song. The beat and vocals also make the song infectiously catchy. I love the Latin vibes that they were going for here, and overall is a step up from their last song together--I Know What You Did Last Summer. This one has been stuck in my head since Friday, and I am hoping it is able to debut next week.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Señorita
2. Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
3. Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down
4. Push Baby - Mama's House
5. The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine

Blurb You

~ Well, the Jonas Brothers now have the longest-running #1 song in countdown history, marking the 13th consecutive week atop the countdown for Sucker. I'm not necessarily angry about it, but I am a bit confused as to why this song has gotten so much excessive attention here, when it is nothing special. Sure it is a good song, but it's nothing special. I don't know, hopefully this marks its final week atop the chart.

~ Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber make a big leap into the top 10, and the top 5, with I Don't Care. I don't mind this, especially considering that this song has been growing on me a bit in the past week or so.

~ I have no idea how Thinkin Bout You managed to jump that much, and out of the blue. I have a similar reaction to that leap by Someone You Loved. How do two songs that are played a below average number of times per week just suddenly jump 10-25 spots? I don't know, I suppose it's just another example of how the countdown is an enigma.

~ Imagine Dragons suffered a pretty big fall when Bad Liar went down 12 spots this week--kicking it out of both the top 10 and the top 20. I honestly don't care what this song does as of now. Up to this point, I find it kind of "meh".

~ Well, High Hopes is finally starting to inch closer to the bottom of the countdown. I didn't think this was ever going to happen. Now, it would be better if Hey Look Ma, I Made It and Dancing's Not A Crime started doing the same. Especially the latter.

~ Just as I had expected, Bazzi takes a second week fall instead of a jump with Paradise. Unfortunately, I can't see this one jumping above the #30 mark.

~ Marshmello and Bastille finally took a tumble with the infamous Happier. Hopefully this marks a bit of a decrease in the frequency we hear this song on this station and others. I would like to get back to liking this song--and not changing the station every time I hear it on the radio.

~ As far as the exits go, good riddance to both Boy With Luv and Tequila. I am especially thankful that the latter is finally gone.

New Entrants

~ Our sole entrant of the week comes from Bazzi with Paradise. Honestly, I was expecting this to be stranded on Hit-Bound, but I am so glad that it debuted on the countdown. This is probably some of his better work. He showcases nice vocals and verses in this song--and the track as a whole runs rather smoothly. Although I don't envision this one staying for too long, I am glad that it was able to make it here in the first place.

Hit-Bound
  • Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
  • OneRepublic - Rescue Me
  • In Real Life - Crazy AF
  • The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine
  • AJR - 100 Bad Days
  • Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down (DEBUT)
  • Lizzo - Truth Hurts
  • P!nk - Hustle
  • Jonas Brothers - Cool
  • Push Baby - Mama's House
  • Kygo & Rita Ora - Carry On
  • Ed Sheeran/Chance The Rapper/PnB Rock - Cross Me
  • Kaskade & Meghan Trainor - With You (DEBUT)
  • Asher Angel - One Thought Away
  • Public - Make You Mine
  • Miley Cyrus - Mother's Daughter
~ Our first new song to Hit-Bound this week comes form Taylor Swift with yet another good song. You Need To Calm Down is nothing amazing when you come to comparing it to her other work, but it still is able to prove itself. It has a nice beat, which I absolutely love. Lyrically, it is interesting to say the least, so not the biggest fan there. However, for what it lacks there it makes up in vocals, which are decent here. Overall, You Need To Calm Down works quite well with me.

~ The second song that we receive on Hit-Bound this week is much worse, and is in the form of With You from Kaskade and Meghan Trainor. The vocals on this track are once again not good--but I don't expect much more from Meghan Trainor. The performance delivered by Kaskade is also pretty lackluster here. So, yeah. I hope this doesn't debut on the countdown.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Mark Ronson/Camila Cabello - Find U Again
2. Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down
3. Push Baby - Mama's House
4. The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha - Call You Mine
5. Miley Cyrus - Mother's Daughter

New Entrants

~ New to the countdown this week is Power Is Power from SZA, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott. This is a very good song in my opinion. The production is fantastic here, and all three artists on the track deliver outstanding performances. SZA sounds amazing as always, The Weeknd doesn't disappoint as expected, and Travis Scott surprisigly delivers a nice verse. While I'm not a Game of Thrones fan in the slightest, I'm sure this was an excellent addition to the soundtrack. I'm hoping this stays for a while.

~ Wow, songs just keep on debuting in the top 20. This is the fifth week in a row now. At least they have all been deserving of such (as far as I remember). 5 Seconds Of Summer debut at #19 with Easier this week. While this song doesn't top Youngblood, I think it is very good. Their voices sound good as usual, and the production was as expected. I especially love that part that leads into the final chorus. The vocal harmony is so beautiful there. I feel as if they took a different approach with this one, and I appreciate that and like this song.

~ The first song new to Hit-Bound this week comes from none other than Katy Perry with her new single Never Really Over. Right off the bat I can tell you her new album is going to be one hundred times better than Witness. This song is better than any song that was on that mediocre excuse of an album. Her voice her shines and I love the production. This track is quite reminiscent of her older styles with her music, and I like it.

~ I don't really have an opinion on Cross Me at the moment.

~ Finally, we have The Chainsmokers replacing Kills You Slowly with Call You Mine. This track features the vocals of Bebe Rexha. She sounds nice here. Nothing amazing, but nice. The only complaint that I have about this song is the drop, it is extremely underwhelming, and the production almost fits with it in that category.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Katy Perry - Never Really Over
2. Push Baby - Mama's House
3. Martin Garrix/Macklemore/Patrick Stump - Summer Days
4. Andy Grammer - Don't Give Up On Me
5. Bazzi - Paradise

Power Is Blurbs

~ This week, the Jonas Brothers managed to snatch a tenth week atop the countdown with Sucker. I am hoping this will mark its last week there, considering we have much more #1 potential in the top 10. Take Me! or If I Can't Have You for instance.

~ Radio has finally done it. I am completely sick of Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho. This song has become incredibly unbearable.

~ I don't know what prompted that jump from I'm So Tired..., but I'm not complaining. This song is still good in my opinion, and the top 20 score could use a boost.

~ Speaking of jumps into the top 20 that seem strange, we now have Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored back up in the ranks. This was unnecessary. Radio is about to kill this song for me too.

~ I am glad that Old Town Road is starting to drop. I don't know why this song is so popular to the point that it needs to be the #1 song in this country for weeks on end. Lil Nas X doesn't have an ounce of talent, and this song is incredibly stupid. I don't understand why Americans support this kind of music so incessantly.

~ I don't understand why songs like Medicine and Out Of Love aren't doing okay here when they are everywhere else. More so the latter. This is kind of disappointing to see two great songs going to waste.

~ Irrelevant songs like When The Party's Over, Better, and 7 Rings need to make their way out and allow room for better songs to take their place. These songs are incredibly bland and tasteless, especially the latter two.

~ As far as the exits go, good riddance to Low Key, and it is sad to see Last Hurrah leave--considering it was one of Bebe Rexha's stronger tracks.
