Well, this was definitely a better week than last week. I really enjoyed the majority of the countdown. I am glad that we got two exceptional debuts and an exit class of one real crappy song and one song that was going to be bad if it stayed much longer. The #1 song wasn't bad again either. New Entrants

~ First off this week we have Machine Gun Kelly returning with a new single with Camila Cabello, Bad Things. I have been enjoying this song for a little while now. The only other work from Machine Gun Kelly that I can say I liked was A Little More, featuring Victoria Monét. Other than that, there wasn't anything else that I have liked from him in the past. Bad Things is undeniably a catchy song. Machine Gun Kelly's verses flow rather smoothly in this song and Camila Cabello adds a lot to it. This was also further proof of her solo endeavors. If she's planning on her solo work to sound like this, I will say that I am greatly anticipating her future releases. I would enjoy seeing this song have success here, as it has been on repeat with me over these past few weeks.

~ Our second and last debut this week comes from Ed Sheeran. It's refreshing to see that Shape Of You doesn't rehash old and boring styles of Thinking Out Loud and even Photograph. I have had this song playing a lot over the past week. Ed Sheeran just really shines when his songs are more upbeat. I just think that this is the style of music that best fits his voice. This song was also released with another single last week, Castle On The Hill. Although Castle On The Hill isn't better than Shape Of You, its still very good and I am enjoying it as well. All I want to see out of Shape Of You for the time being is some good countdown success.

Bad Blurbs

~ Maroon 5 - Don't Wanna Know can stay at the top of the countdown as long as it wants, as long as it prevents Twenty One Pilots - Heathens and Niall Horan - This Town from reaching #1. So far, it is succeeding in my wishes.

~ Of course we bid good day to two fantastic songs from the top 10, and we get a crappy re-entry back in. Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better needs to leave. I am really getting sick of this.

~ After repeated listens, Lady Gaga - Million Reasons has rid itself from the blue zone. I guess this was just one of those songs. I'm glad I am enjoying this song at the moment.

~ I found it interesting that both the best song and worst song on the countdown landed next to each other this week. The former of which, I'm glad was higher. Zayn & Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever took a well deserved jump back into the top 20. Hopefully it continues to rise. X Ambassadors - Unsteady is now the worst song here, as the level of actual bad songs is beginning to wither, as we are slowly getting rid of them week by week. This one could be orange for a while, unless it finally decides to freaking drop.

~ I am very glad Charli XCX - After The Afterparty made a recovery from that drop last week, even reaching the top 20. This song is just really fun and enthusiastic. I just really enjoy how Charli XCX isn't afraid to embrace her inner child. I love that kind of expression, even though I am still technically a kid.

~ I really enjoyed seeing that small dip in the numbers from OneRepublic - Kids. Hopefully this song continues to decline, as it is very close to becoming a song colored in red.

~ Oh, I didn't know that Daya - Sit Still, Look Pretty can make random jumps out of the bottom 5, back into the top 30. This song almost was dead here, and of course Hits 1 can't get Daya off their minds, so they decide to give her the second biggest jump of the week. I just don't want this song to get older than it already is.

~ I really am disappointed that Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha - In The Name Of Love took that ridiculous drop out of the top 10. I really would like to see it make a recovery, even one where it goes back into the 20's. I just don't understand the logic on this station sometimes.

~ Well, Fitz & The Tantrums - HandClap is getting a slow start. Not very promising there.

~ Great. We just have Fifth Harmony/Camila Cabello - That's My Girl drop into the bottom 5. I guess Hits 1 just hands out permission slips left and right for good song to drop.

~ It's very refreshing to see Andy Grammer - Fresh Eyes in the lowest spot on the countdown. Hopefully this can be rid of next week.

~ Last week's Hot 45 Chart came out yesterday afternoon with a new format. I suggest you go read that if you haven't already. This week's Hot 45 Chart will most likely be out no later than Tuesday.

  1. There is a mistake for the #7 song. It's Scars to Your Beautiful, not Scars to My Beautiful. Just wanted to let you know.... First comment!

  2. Strongly disagree with most of your top 5, and your distaste for Treat you better. It's a better song than anything in your top d

  3. The only 2 songs that comes up on Hits 1 in which I have to change the station:

    Days when
We'd fight, we'd fight 'til I would give in
    Yeah, perfect disasters
We were reaching, reaching for the rafters
And on most of the days we were searching for ways
To get up and get out of the town that we were raised, yeah
    'Cause we were done
I remember, we were sleeping in cars, we were searching for OZ
We were burning cigars with white plastics tips 'til we saw the sun
And we said crazy things like
I refuse to look back thinking days were better
    Just because they're younger days
    I don't know what's 'round the corner
Way I feel right now I swear we'll never change
    Back when we were kids
    Swore we would never die
    You and me were kids
    Swear that we’ll never die
    Lights down
And we drive and we're drivin' just to get out
    Yeah, perfect disasters
Yeah, we were swinging, swinging from the rafters
Hey, we were dancing in cars, we were looking for ours
We were naming the stars after people we knew 'til we had to go
And we were saying things like
I refuse to look back thinking days were better
    Just because they're younger days
    I don't know what's 'round the corner
Way I feel right now I swear we'll never change
    Back when we were kids
    Swore we would never die
    You and me were kids
    Swear that we'll never die
    Nights when we kept dancing
    Changing all our plans and
    Making every day a holiday
    Feel the years start burning
    City lights they're turning
Something 'bout this feels the same
    Back when we were kids
    Swore we would never die
    You and me were kids
    Swear that we'll never die
I refuse to look back thinking days were better
    Just because they're younger days
    I don't know what's 'round the corner
Way I feel right now I swear we’ll never change
    You and me were kids

Come on, come on, turn the radio on
It's Friday night and I won't be long
Gotta do my hair, I put my make up on

Til I hit the dance floor
    Hit the dance floor
    I got all I need
    No I ain't got cash

    But I got you baby
Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
    (I love cheap thrills)
Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
    (I love cheap thrills)
But I don't need no money
As long as I can feel the beat
    I don't need no money
As long as I keep dancing
Come on, come on, turn the radio on
    It's Saturday and I won't be long
Gotta paint my nails, put my high heels on
    It's Saturday and I won't be long
Til I hit the dance floor
    Hit the dance floor
    I got all I need
    No I ain't got cash

2019 Year-End Post #4: My Top 45 Songs of 2019

2019, similar to years past, has been a pretty average year for music. There was a lot of bad, but there was also a lot of good. This year ...
