A 2018 Year-End Special - A Year In Review (Part 2)

Hello again, everyone! Welcome to part two of this year in review. Before we get started, I would like to take a moment to discuss this year in music. Ultimately, I believe that this year was really nothing special. This year may have been one of the worst, in fact, that we have had in quite a few years. I was even finding it kind of difficult to put together my Top 45 Songs of 2018. I have never had that problem in years past.

The quality of music in 2018 has not been the best. For the most part, it has been pretty mediocre. We had a lot of terrible rap music, which is derivative of what we have heard in previous years. However, with that poor quality of music--we still had a few gems, and we will discuss some of them in this post, and in my Top 45 Songs of 2018--of course.

Now, with that off of my chest, let's get onto this year in the world of Hits 1. We will start by reviewing all of the #1 songs this year on Hits 1. We did have quite a few good songs hit #1 this year, but we did have one of the worst songs of the year spend nine weeks atop the countdown--which was not good. Regardless, let's review these songs right now.
  • Zedd, Maren Morris, & Grey - The Middle (9)
  • Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes (8)
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood (5)
  • Panic! At The Disco - Say Amen (Saturday Night) (4)
  • Imagine Dragons - Thunder (3) [5 total]
  • Taylor Swift - Delicate (3)
  • The Chainsmokers/Kelsea Ballerini - This Feeling (3)
  • Charlie Puth - How Long (2)
  • Fall Out Boy - The Last Of The Real Ones (2)
  • Marshmello/Bastille - Happier (2)
  • Shawn Mendes - In My Blood (2)
  • Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line - Meant To Be (1)
  • Camila Cabello - Never Be The Same (1)
  • Ed Sheeran - Perfect (1) [2 total]
  • Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/Florida Georgia Line/watt - Let Me Go (1)
  • Imagine Dragons - Natural (1)
  • Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes (1)
  • Macklemore/Kesha - Good Old Days (1)
  • Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran/Future - End Game (1)
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Want You Back (1)

Alright, onto Hit-Bound. This year--like past years, we had quite a few songs that missed the mark and never had the privilege to be announched by Spyder Harrison on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown.
  • Big Boi - All Night
  • BTS - Fake Love
  • Cole Redding - Father Father
  • Clean Bandit/Julia Michaels - I Miss You
  • HRVY - Personal
  • In Real Life - Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
  • Jason Derulo & David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Willy William - Goodbye
  • Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd - Jump
  • Justin Timberlake - SoulMate
  • Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team
  • Post Malone - I Fall Apart
  • Sofi Tukker/NERVO/The Knocks/Alisa Ueno - Best Friend
  • Spencer - Whatever
  • The Chainsmokers - Everybody Hates Me
  • The Chainsmokers & Drew Love - Somebody
  • Thirty Seconds To Mars - Walk On Water
  • Twenty One Pilots - Legend
  • Welshly Arms - Legendary
  • Why Don't We - Trust Fund Baby
  • Wild Things - Don't Wanna Feel It
  • Years & Years - If You're Over Me
There were a lot more bad songs that got stranded on Hit-Bound this year than there were good. That is good--because it made it much easier to hand out this year's Lights Over Paris Hit-Bound Hero Award. Every year, this award is given to the best song that got stranded on Hit-Bound and never was able to make it onto the Weekend Countdown.

2018 Lights Over Paris Hit-Bound Hero Award Recipient: Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd - Jump

Runner-Ups:

With that done, we will now discuss the biggest song that Hits 1 failed to pick up on this year. This station picks up a lot of hit music throughout each year's course, but this year they did miss a few. Here is one of the biggest songs that Hits 1 failed to pick up on this year.
