#1 Recommendation Of The Week: Jack & Jack - No One Compares To You

New Entrants

~ First up this week, we have Alec Benjamin with Let Me Down Slowly. This song isn't really anything special. I don't love the sound of Benjamin's voice. I had enjoyed this song a little more when I heard it over the summer. But now, it's nothing more than just an okay song. However, with its presence here, it could easily become a less than good song in a short matter of time.

~ Our second entrant this week comes from Shawn Mendes. He brings his newest single Nervous to the table. Previously, I was not a huge fan of this song--until recently. The vocals on this track are nice and smooth, and it gives that traditional contemporary feel of a lot of Mendes's songs. It doesn't seem to be a huge winner among the Hits 1 blogging community, but I beg to differ. I do find this as a simply good song, and I hope to see some success from it here.

~ The next debut we see this week comes from Post Malone & Swae Lee in the form of Sunflower. Both of these artists have nice voices when they don't completely apply them to just rapping. I noticed that Post Malone had a very nice voice from songs of his like Better Now and Psycho. His great voice continues on into this track, and has me hooked in every time. Both artists, in fact, sound pretty solid on this track. I enjoy the structure of the song, but it has virtually nothing more than good vocals. However, I think that I am okay with that.

~ We round off our class of entrants this week with Camila Cabello. She brings us her newest single, Consequences--with a nice orchestral production surrounding it. When I first took a listen to Consequences back in the beginning of the year, I had concluded that it was one of my favorites from the Camila album. However, the addition of the orchestra has made this song so much better, when I didn't even think that was possible. I am very content with the vocal content in this track as well--it is a perfect ballad and I can feel the emotion. I hope to see this one have some rightful success here.

Best New Entrant Of The Week: Camila Cabello - Consequences

Hit-Bound
  • Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho (DEBUT)
  • Twenty One Pilots - Chlorine
  • Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next
  • James Arthur - Empty Space (DEBUT)
  • Little Mix/Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me
  • Imagine Dragons - Machine
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Killer Queen
  • Zara Larsson - Ruin My Life (DEBUT)
  • Steve Aoki/BTS - Waste It On Me
  • Lauren Jauregui - Expectations
  • Lauv/Julia Michaels - There's No Way
  • Ellie Goulding & Diplo - Close To Me
  • David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone
  • Olly Murs - Moves
~ Our first Hit-Bound entrant this week comes from newcomer Ava Max with Sweet But Psycho. This song has been around for a few months now, so I have been listening to it since the late summer. I like her voice, and I find this song just fun and enjoyable. The chorus is the best component to the track. I hope to see this one on the countdown in the near future.

~ Next, we have James Arthur's return with Empty Space. While I have liked some of his past songs like Say You Won't Let Go and Naked, this one is not doing it for me. I don't know what it is, but I am not a huge fan of the song. It's just one of those songs. My opinion could change with more listens, but for now I am not enjoying this one. More on this if it debuts on the countdown.

~ Finally, our last new Hit-Bound track this week comes from Zara Larsson in the form of Ruin My Life. I thoroughly enjoy this one. I think it is a great track. I am infected by the chorus and the vocals are very good here. I am hoping to see this one make an appearance on the countdown in the near future.

My Bottom 5 Hit-Bound Picks (wow there are actually enough to do it now)
1. Imagine Dragons - Machine
2. Twenty One Pilots - Chlorine
3. David Guetta/Anne-Maire - Don't Leave Me Alone
4. 5 Seconds Of Summer - Killer Queen
5. James Arthur - Empty Space

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Ellie Goulding & Diplo - Close To Me
2. Zara Larsso - Ruin My Life
3. Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next
4. Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho
5. Little Mix/Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me

Let Me Blurb Slowly

~ We see the return of 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood to the top of the countdown. I am okay with this, although I prefer that Happier was there for another week.

~ I would love to see the demise of 2002 here soon. This is the only bad song in the top 20 at the moment.

~ Anyways, not much happened within the top 20 this week, besides the jump back in from Backstreet Boys with Don't Go Breaking My Heart. I am not mad over this, but I would like to see it at least outside of the top 20, as there are better songs to be filling the area up.

~ That jump from Panic! At The Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It was quite short lived. I'm not sure if this signifies the eventual drop of the song, or if it will continue to attempt to get back up in the higher positions of the countdown. We'll have to wait and see.

~ I am glad to see that Tequila has dipped below the top 20 with a ten spot drop this week. I really cannot stand this song. I just hope to see this one not rise above the #20 mark again.

~ I am not really surprised by the fall of Walk The Moon - Kamikaze. It was bound to happen. if anything, I am more surprised about its high level of success here. It's really not that popular of the song, but I like it anyways.

~ As far as our exits this week go, I am glad to see Free Free Free and Jackie Chan go. They were two of the most obnoxious songs on the countdown. However, I guess some good has to come with the bad. I am not nearly as happy by the dropouts from Drew Barrymore and Heart To Break. But given their poor success on the countdown, it was quite frankly a godsend that they stayed as long as they did.

~ Please, please, please consider participation in the 200,000 Pageview Special, which is a rankdown among the eighty most successful songs on my personal chart this year. If I do not have enough participants, I will not be able to carry out with this special. I need about five more participants, and I will extend deadlines if I have to. The current deadline is this coming Saturday, but that can be pushed back if I do not have enough participants having answered in time. If you could find time to participate, I would appreciate it immensely. The link to the list that you need to rank from and where to submit your results will be listed below.
