2019 Year-End Post #3: 2019 - A Year In Review

Hello again, everyone! Welcome to a review of 2019 on Hits 1. I ultimately feel that 2019 was a small step up from what we got last year, but it is nothing incredibly special. I found it a little easier to construct my Top 45 Songs of 2019 than last year, which is good.

Now that I have given my brief opinion on this year's music, let's review this year in Hits 1 land. There were several songs that achieved the crown on the Weekend Countdown this year (some good, some bad), and the Jonas Brothers even broke the record for the most weeks at #1 in the countdown's history, and the song wasn't awful, so I am somewhat happy that a decent song took that honor. Below are all the songs that hit #1 on the Weekend Countdown in 2019 with their respective number of times at #1 listed as well.
  • Jonas Brothers - Sucker (13)
  • Shawn Mendes - If I Can't Have You (9)
  • Halsey - Without Me (5)
  • The Chainsmokers/Kelsea Ballerini - This Feeling (5) [7 total]
  • Niall Horan - Nice To Meet Ya (4)
  • Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved (3)
  • Panic! At The Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It (3)
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Easier (3)
  • The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds Of Summer - Who Do You Love (3)
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Teeth (3)
  • Ed Sheeran/Khalid - Beautiful People (1)
  • Jonas Brothers - Cool (1)
  • Jonas Brothers - Only Human (1)
  • Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down (1)

Alright, now that we have reviewed that it is onto Hit-Bound. We had several songs, like each year, that did not receive the privilege to be announced by Spyder Harrison on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown. Those songs are as follows:
  • Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, & Lana Del Rey - Don't Call Me Angel
  • Bryce Vine - La La Land
  • Charlie Puth - I Warned Myself
  • Ed Sheeran/Chance The Rapper/PnB Rock - Cross Me
  • Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, & Bruno Mars - Blow
  • Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd - Lost In The Fire
  • In Real Life - Crazy AF
  • Kygo/Rita Ora - Carry On
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
  • Lewis Capaldi - Hold Me While You Wait
  • Louis Tomlinson - Kill My Mind
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • Mabel - Don't Call Me Up
  • Monsta X/French Montana - Who Do U Love
  • Normani - Motivation
  • Rita Ora - Let You Love Me
  • Taylor Swift - The Archer
  • The Chainsmokers - Kills You Slowly
  • The Chainsmokers & Illenium/Lennon Stella - Takeaway
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer - Killer Queen
There were several songs that didn't exactly peak my interest that were left stranded on Hit-Bound this year, which was good. Now that we have reviewed the songs stranded on Hit-Bound, it is time to give out this year's Lights Over Paris Hit-Bound Hero Award. Each year, this award is given to the best song that unfortunately got stranded on Hit-Bound and never made it to the Weekend Countdown.

2019 Lights Over Paris Hit-Bound Hero Award Recipient: The Chainsmokers & Illenium/Lennon Stella - Takeaway

Runner-Ups:
  • Normani - Motivation
  • Taylor Swift - The Archer
  • Mabel - Don't Call Me Up
  • Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd - Lost In The Fire

With that out of the way, we will now recognize the biggest song that Hits 1 failed to pick up on this year in my personal opinion. This station picks up tons of hit music throughout the course of each year, but they always miss some. Here is one of the biggest songs that Hits 1 failed to pick up on this year.

2019 Biggest Whiff Award Recipient: Chris Brown/Drake - No Guidance

Tenure Trophies

Shortest Tenured Song of 2019: SZA, The Weeknd, & Travis Scott - Power Is Power (1 week; entered 6/1/2019, exited 6/8/2019)

Longest Tenured Song of 2019: The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds Of Summer - Who Do You Love (45 weeks; still charting, entered 2/16/2019)

With that, we reach the end of this year in review! Thank you all for reading! Up next: My Top 45 Songs of 2019!
