New Entrants

~ I was seriously hoping that Old Town Road wouldn't debut onto the countdown, but here it is--one week after appearing on Hit-Bound. This song is such a piece of trash. I do not understand how anyone could like this song, but then again who could like most of the idiotic rap music we here nowadays. I don't like how Lil Nas X is attempting to cross over into other genres with this song by claiming it is country. Even Billboard rejected the fact that it is country, by not allowing it to chart on the country charts. So, he decides to add Billy Ray Cyrus to the song (I have no idea why he would agree to do that, but whatever)--and it's still godawful. The lyrical content here is idiotic and the track is not well-produced in my opinion. Lil Nas X also has no vocal appeal, and Billy Ray Cyrus cannot save this song, even if he is the least awful thing about it. I am hoping this does not lats long at all.

Hit-Bound
  • Jennifer Lopez & French Montana - Medicine
  • Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
  • Jordan McGraw - Flexible
  • The Chainsmokers - Kills You Slowly
  • Jonas Brothers - Cool
  • SZA, The Weeknd, & Travis Scott - Power Is Power (DEBUT)
  • Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
  • MAX/Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
  • Billie Eilish - Bad Guy (DEBUT)
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • Ava Max - So Am I
  • BTS/Halsey - Boy With Luv
  • lovelytheband - Maybe I'm Afraid
  • Bazzi - Paradise (DEBUT)
~ First up this week, we have SZA, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott with Power Is Power. This is a good song. Both SZA and The Weeknd soar vocally on this track. While I don't completely love the contributions of Travis Scott, I can definitely live with it. It may take a few more listens for me to warm up to on that end, but I like this track. It is nicely produced and has a nice energy. I am hoping it is successful.

~ Next is Billie Eilish with Bad Guy. I like this one. Billie Eilish's music is usually a mixed bag for me. Some of it I like, and some of it I don't like. Both Bury A Friend and Bad Guy I have been subject to liking. The lyrics on this song are a bit strange in parts, but that is her dark humor aesthetic speaking. It has an interesting, but fitting production as well. Call it a "guilty pleasure" if you may. I notice that this song is not intensively musically involved, but it has a conceptual appeal.

~ Finally, we have Bazzi with Paradise. He vocally reaches a nice height here, and the track bears and effective production. I know many aren't huge fans of Bazzi's music, but most of his content has been good in my eyes. I think he has a nice level of talent, and bears nice vocal skills that can crossover into rapping skills. He mostly vocally shows off his talents on Paradise, which I enjoy. I am hoping this isn't a huge flop, like a considerable number of his tracks have been.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. MAX/Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
2. Bazzi - Paradise
3. Jennifer Lopez & French Montana - Medicine
4. Billie Eilish - Bad Guy
5. SZA, The Weeknd, & Travis Scott - Power Is Power

Old Town Blurb

~ Sucker is #1 again. Although I am happy about this, I would like to see Who Do You Love snatch the #1 spot for at least a week, considering it is my favorite song here at the moment. However, I am not sure that is going to happen.

~ High Hopes absolutely needs to leave the top 10. It is getting wickedly annoying at this point. It has been there forever, and it wasn't even that popular that it had to be in the top 10 an excessive amount of weeks.

~ Speaking of songs that should probably exit the top 10 as soon as possible, Speechless has already made its way in. I was expecting this, but I just hope that it doesn't just stick around there for an elongated period of time like Tequila.

~ As a consequence of the drop of 7 Rings this week, we see Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored soar into the top 20. This is good, considering this song is much better than 7 Rings.

~ It is also nice to see that we receive Walk Me Home, I've Been Waiting, and Dumb Blonde in the top 20 this week. That should certainly boost the top 20 score a little bit in my case.

~ Ciara - Thinking Bout You is the only song that debuted last week that seemed to be unsuccessful this week. I was expecting this to make a decent jump, considering the immense support it has received from Hits 1 thus far.

~ Well, Maren Morris - Girl hasn't had a very good countdown run in the slightest. I can definitely see this one leaving next week, and hopefully Love Lies and Natural will go with it. Slowly but surely we must clear out all of the bad songs here.

~ As for the exit this week, I am very happy to see Apologize go. It is probably one of the most irrelevant songs that has been here in a while. I don't even understand what prompted Hits 1 to pick up on this, but good riddance.

New Entrants

~ First up in our week of amazing debuts is Fletcher. She brings us Undrunk. I like the differences this song has from a traditional pop hit. It has very well-written and meaningful lyrics. In addition, she brings strong and raw vocals to the table here, which blend perfectly with the context of the song. I would love to see this song have some success here, but I am not visualizing it going to well for it--which is a major shame. All set aside, though, I would love to hear more from her in the future for sure.

~ Next up is Here With Me from Marshmello and CHVRCHES. At the moment, I am more of a fan of this song rather than Happier--but that may just be due to the fact that the song has been wickedly overplayed. Production-wise, this song is similar to that of Happier. However, on the vocal side of things, it is a little bit different. Lauren Mayberry gives nice vocals here, and is able to carry them flawlessly through the song. I am hoping to see this one do good here, as it is still rising on radio.

~ From Ciara's upcoming album Beauty Marks, we also receive Thinkin Bout You this week. I thoroughly enjoy the nice, calming presence of this track. Her vocals are soft and melodic and I enjoy the nice guitar tones and consistent bassline. It gives a nice, raw feeling to the song. Yet another good addition to the countdown this week. Hopefully it is successful, it is quite superb.

~ Next up, we have Avril Lavigne, with a Nicki Minaj feature on Dumb Blonde. This song feels like a little bit of a late 1990's to early 2000's throwback-styled tune. I like how Avril blends her older punk-rock style with her more pop-oriented style with this track. I also love the rock hard drums and blaring brass instrumentals. While this certainly isn't her strongest track vocally, it is still confident enough to have a nice appeal. Nicki Minaj also brings a nice verse here, which was as expected.

~ Finally, our class of debuts this week caps out with Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored. This song is quite easily the best of the three official singles we have got from Ariana's recent Thank U, Next album. While her new direction of music isn't her strongest route, Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored is still an enjoyable listen. It has a nice vibe to it, and while her vocals are not the best, I can still manage to enjoy it upon a listen.

Entrant Rankings:
  1. Ciara - Thinkin Bout You
  2. Fletcher - Undrunk
  3. Marshmello/CHVRCHES - Here With Me
  4. Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
  5. Avril Lavigne/Nicki Minaj - Dumb Blonde

Hit-Bound
  • Lil Nas X/Billy Ray Cyrus - Old Town Road (DEBUT)
  • Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
  • NOTD, Felix Jaehn, & Captain Cuts/Georgia Ku - So Close
  • BTS/Halsey - Boy With Luv (DEBUT)
  • lovelytheband - Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • MAX/Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
  • Ava Max - So Am I
  • Jonas Brothers - Cool
  • Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other (DEBUT)
  • Kygo/Valerie Broussard - Think About You
  • Jordan McGraw - Flexible
  • Jennifer Lopez/French Montana - Medicine (DEBUT)
  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • The Chainsmokers - Kills You Slowly (DEBUT)
~ First up this week is Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus with Old Town Road. First off, I don't understand why this song is so popular. It is yet another example of the declining intelligence of the American public. This song is not country, and frankly not much is these days--but that is not the point. It is one hundred percent a trap song, and I don't understand why anyone else would think otherwise. Even when this song was taken off country charts by Billboard, Lil Nas X decided to release a remix with Billy Ray Cyrus, so he could crossover into the country genre. This just shows how desperate he is to get more recognition. This song is absolute garbage. It is terrible, and I cannot stand the fact that anyone likes it--but I guess this is what sells in the music industry now. It is seriously ridiculous and I am hoping that this song does not become big on Hits 1, because it didn't deserve to get big in the first place.

~ Next up, we have BTS and Halsey with Boy With Luv. This song has awful production, just like many of this group's songs. BTS doesn't deliver a good performance here, as the vocals are boring and the rapping on this track is obnoxious. Halsey sounds alright on this song, but she really isn't even on it that much. So, that is about the only thing that is good with this song. I also don't understand why BTS has songs that are so over-hyped, I just don't understand their massive appeal. They don't seem like anything special to me.

~ Following those two terrible songs, we have a pretty good one in the form of Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other. This guy does not have bad music. In fact, I like his unique voice very much. However, Let Me Down Slowly was wickedly overplayed and I just got sick of it at some point. If We Have Each Other hopefully won't follow the same path. I like this song. I think his vocals are nice, and I like how the lyrics tell a story. It also has some nice instrumentals. I would definitely like to see this song have some level of success.

~ Next comes Jennifer Lopez and French Montana with the best Hit-Bound debut of the week--Medicine. I really like this song. It has so much energy and it is super fun to listen to. Jennifer Lopez sounds great here, and it is a definite overall step up from Limitless. I wasn't so sure about French Montana's contributions going into this song, but he does really well too. I am really hoping that this song is successful.

~ Finally, we have The Chainsmokers with Kills You Slowly. After one listen, I think this song is good. I have it in green, but I can easily see it going down to blue. It is nothing super great, but I like it for the time being. It is kind of generic in terms of production patterns and Drew Taggart's voice isn't exactly top notch. It just has kind of an awkward feel, and I feel that there are a few things that could be touched up with this one to make it a little better.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. MAX/Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
2. Jennifer Lopez/French Montana - Medicine
3. Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
4. Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other
5. Ava Max - So Am I

Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Blurbed

~ Jonas Brothers - Sucker is holding atop the countdown for another week. I am glad that we are just not seeing Panic! At The Disco or The Chainsmokers (with their "meh" songs) atop the countdown all the time.

~ I am getting a little annoyed at this point that High Hopes keeps jumping in and out of the top 10. It has been there for far too long. I don't understand what is so unbelievably good about this song.

~ As a result of the drop from Tequila, we have Speechless rising. Although I am not a fan of this, I would prefer it do better, as it is the better of the two. I am just hoping that it doesn't stick around for as long as Tequila did.

~ Well, it's nice to see that Better by Khalid isn't dead. It was pretty dormant for a while there, but it managed to jump into the top 20.

~ Why, why, why people? Why did Low Key jump all the way to #21 this week? I don't understand why people like this song. It is super generic and very poorly-written, poorly-produced, and poorly-executed. This song is literally not even relevant anywhere else right now, so why is it here?

~ I was pretty surprised to see that significant jump from Wow. this week. I was not expecting that in the slightest. I was thinking this song was just going to hover around in the bottom 5 for months, but that really isn't the case I guess. I don't mind this jump though, considering it's not that bad of a song. It is closer to green than it is to red.

~ Good thing that pretty big rise by In Betweenin' didn't last very long. I don't think that teenage boys trying to make it big is really a thing anymore. Justin Bieber pretty much did that and then closed the door to everyone else--and he really isn't anything special either. Between childish vocals and lyrics I cannot take seriously, this song just isn't good.

~ I am very pleased to see that downhill stumble from Eastside. It is just another generic and highly overrated song that didn't really need to be hyped up that much.

~ Speaking of big drops, Sunflower also took a pretty significant one. It went from being in the top 20, all the way to the bottom 5. I don't really care about the drop either way. I am not as big of a fan of the song as I once was.

~ As for the exits, it was a pretty good group that got the axe. I am very pleased to see both All The Ways and The Way I Am go. Both were extremely generic. The former was just another awfully produced and sung song my the irrelevant Meghan Trainor. The latter was a song that I once liked, but it was here for way too long and just became boring and annoying. As for Hurts Like Hell, it wasn't here at the right time to align with my opinions. I liked it for a while, but I eventually got kind of sick of it. Genius and I'm A Mess were two songs that I really didn't care either way what they did. So I am not upset over their exit.

~ First up this week we have Lizzo with Juice. I was not expecting this song to debut on the countdown so swiftly. If anything, I was expecting to see Ciara - Thinking Bout You debut seeing how Hits 1 did a big premiere for it last week. Anyways, Juice isn't that bad. I don't love it, but it certainly isn't awful. It has a fun vibe, but I can't really take the lyrics seriously (they are kind of funny, actually). But, her voice isn't awful. So, I don't exactly hate this song. It is just one of those songs that is "there".

~ Second up this week, we have a song that I was hoping wouldn't enter the countdown. That song is Low Key from former Fifth Harmony member, Ally Brooke. Every single piece of this song is utter trash. She is probably the worst of the girls. Camila and Normani have wowed me, the rest of them--not so much. This track has shitty production, grating vocal content, and idiotic lyrics. I am thankful that Hits 1 did not air the Tyga version of this song, because that would have made it worse. Either way, there is no saving this song. It's just that bad. Ally Brooke is trying too hard to be impressionable.

~ With our final (and best) debut of the week, we have Bebe Rexha with Last Hurrah. I do like this song. Almost everything that Bebe Rexha has put out to date has been pretty good, and this is no exception. Last Hurrah has a nice production and good vocals. It sounds kind of similar to I'm A Mess, but I am okay with it. I liked that song a lot. So, yeah. I am hoping that this one is going to do well here.

Entrant Rankings:
  1. Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah
  2. Lizzo - Juice
  3. Ally Brooke - Low Key

~ New to Hit-Bound this week, we have the son of Dr. Phil, Jordan McGraw, with Flexible. This song is good. It has nice vocals and and interesting beat. It is something worth a few listens here and there, but definitely not the best thing ever. It could be a grower, but for now it is alright.

~ Next up is the Jonas Brothers with Cool. This song is pretty good. It doesn't top Sucker in my book, but it is still enjoyable. The vocals have nothing wrong with them, and the production is good. Overall, pretty good. More on this if it debuts, which I am not doubting it will. It does sound similar to something that I have heard before, but I might have to get back to you on that.

~ Finally, we have, in what is my opinion, the best debut of the week, Love Me Less from MAX and Quinn XCII. I was a fan of Quinn XCII's song Flare Guns with Chelsea Cutler a few years back, so I am glad to see that he is getting a bit of attention, being on a song with MAX. Love Me Less is super catchy and both of them deliver superb vocals. I am hoping that this gains some traction, because it could definitely be a fun summer song.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. MAX/Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
2. Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
3. Fletcher - Undrunk
4. Ariana Grande - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
5. Jonas Brothers - Cool

Blurb Hurrah

~ In a rather crappy top 10, and top 10 this week, we have the three diamonds in the rough shining above it all. It is nice to see the continuation of Sucker at #1, and the little jumps from Sweet But Psycho and Who Do You Love.

~ Although I am glad that High Hopes has finally left the top 10, I did not mean that was the signal to bump back in Let Me Down Slowly all the way to #4, or This Feeling for that matter.

~ Speaking on behalf of second week jumps, I thought it was pretty horrible that Austin Brown - In Betweenin' had that skyrocket jump to #22. But, it will probably drop next week, seeing as it doesn't really belong here. However, it was nice to see that fairly-sized jump from P!nk - Walk Me Home.

~ It is kind of sad to see that 11 Minutes is failing. I was hoping to see that song have a little bit of success, but I am not so sure about that at this point.

~ I literally only find one song good in the entire lower third of the countdown. One. That song is 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood. This just shows how much trash and space-filling content is being held onto here--and it has to go.

~ I am very pleased to see that jump from Meghan Trainor - All The Ways did not last long. Now all we have to do is get this song off of the countdown.

~ I do not understand why Hits 1 is still hanging onto The Way I Am. This song is unbelievably irrelevant. What is so good about it that it has to stay floating in the bottom 5 for months? Nothing, if you ask me. Let's just get this gone, and the entire bottom 5 for a matter of fact.

~ As for our exits, 365 will be missed, but it was frankly going nowhere and I am very glad that Harry did not last long here. Additionally, it is refreshing to see Girls Like You finally go. I was getting kind of sick of it.
